Why Lux Photo Lab?

Basics

What is a giclée print?

The term giclée (pronounced “jee-clay”) comes from the French word gicler, meaning “to spray.” It refers to fine art digital printing that uses pigment-based inks and high-end inkjet technology to produce archival-quality prints.

Does Lux Photo Lab produce giclée prints?

Yes. Fine art archival pigment printing is the foundation of what we do. We print exclusively on Hahnemühle FineArt papers and premium canvas, using Canon Lucia Pro II pigment inks for unmatched detail, color depth, and permanence.

What does “archival” mean? Are your prints archival?

“Archival” means the materials and processes used are designed to last for generations without visible degradation when stored or displayed properly. All Lux Photo Lab materials, inks, papers, and finishing methods, are fully archival, meeting museum-grade preservation standards.

Printing Materials

What kinds of surfaces do you offer for printing?

We print exclusively on certified Hahnemühle FineArt and Photo Papers, the world standard for museum-quality printing. Each paper offers unique texture, tone, and character, designed to complement different photographic and artistic styles.

You can find the currently available Hahnemühle papers listed on our website. If you’re looking for a specific Hahnemühle paper that isn’t shown, please contact us, we’re happy to source or recommend the best option for your project.

Do you print on metal?

No. We do not print on metal, as that process requires a different technology that does not meet our archival pigment standards.

Do you print on fabric or rice paper?

We do not print on rice paper or woven fabrics. The only fabric we use is high-quality archival canvas.

Which material should I choose?

It depends on the look you want to achieve. Paper brings an elegant, tactile feel suited to photography and digital art, while canvas offers a classic, gallery-ready aesthetic. If you’re unsure, we can recommend the best option based on your image and desired presentation.

Working With Us

Do you accept walk-in clients?

We work by appointment only. This allows us to dedicate uninterrupted time to your project. Appointments can be scheduled online or via email.

Can I order prints online?

Yes. You can upload your files and begin your project directly on our website. Each submission is personally reviewed to ensure quality, no automated systems, just human expertise.

Do you offer print-on-demand services?

Yes, through our B2A (Business-to-Artist) Program. This service is designed for photographers, artists, and galleries who wish to sell fine art prints without managing inventory. Learn more at luxphotolab.com/services-b2a.

What is your turnaround time?

Most print orders are completed within 1–3 business days, depending on size and paper selection. Complex or large-quantity projects may require additional time.

Do you offer rush services?

Yes. Rush production is available depending on our current schedule. Please contact us before placing your order if you have a deadline.

Can I get a test print or proof?

Absolutely. Proofs are highly recommended when precise color or tone is essential. A small proof on your chosen paper lets you preview how your file will translate to print before final production.

Pickup & Shipping

What are my pickup and shipping options?

You can choose in office pickup appointment or shipping via our trusted carriers. We offer both domestic (U.S.) and international delivery.

Can you ship my prints for me?

Yes. Every print is carefully packaged using archival sleeves, protective buffers, and sturdy flat boxes or tubes to ensure safe transport.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping cost varies by size, destination, and insurance value. Please contact us for a quote based on your order’s specifications.

Sizing & File Guidance

How large can you print?

We currently produce prints up to 24 inches wide, by virtually any proportional length. For larger projects, please contact us to discuss upcoming capabilities.

Is there a minimum print size?

Yes. Our minimum print size is approximately 8″ × 10″. Smaller dimensions can be produced but may be priced at the same rate.

How large should the border be?

Borders are optional and purely aesthetic. You can include them directly in your file or request a layout with a specified border width. Keep in mind that borders affect the total print dimensions.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept TIFF (preferred) and JPEG (maximum quality), flattened and in Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB color space. Files with layers or alpha channels should be flattened before submission. Contact us for further assistance.

Do you offer scanning services?

No, we currently do not provide scanning. All files must be supplied digitally in high-resolution, print-ready format.

Payment

Is there a minimum order amount?

Yes. We require a minimum order value, which may vary depending on the materials and size.

What are your payment terms and methods?

We require 100 % payment upfront before starting production. Payment can be made securely online via credit or debit card. We do not accept in-person or cash payments.

Do you offer discounts for volume orders?

Yes. We can offer custom quotes and tiered pricing for large orders or exhibition projects. Please reach out for details.
